Seaham flying high for 2nd year

The results are in and we are proud to announce that 1338 (Seaham) Squadron were announced as the overall best squadrons in Durham & Northumberland Wing.

Each year, the squadron is inspected three times; an Annual Formal Inspection to award the Crofton trophy, an Administration Inspection for the Pusey trophy and an Activities Inspection for the Durham trophy. The results are then averaged out, with the winning squadron being awarded the Lidisfarne trophy.

Seaham Squadron took first place in the Annual Formal Inspection which involved a parade in front of Wing Commander D Harris RAFVR(T), with the Wing Warrant Officer, WO (ATC) V Farrimond marking the squadron against a set criteria. The squadron scored 89%, matching last year’s result.

The squadron also performed exceptionally well in the Administration Inspection, beating last year’s result by 1.39%, scoring 98.72% and coming first once again. This inspection is a check on the Squadrons records, and encompasses all of the paperwork, cadet records, health and safety and procedures which the Squadron must abide by.

The final inspection, the activities inspection, looks at the number of activities, qualifications and competitions in which the cadets participate, with points awarded for each, and annual targets to reach. This year the squadron dropped 2 places, scoring 65.52% (0.43% less than the previous year) but still managed to place a healthy 4th in the wing – a great achievement against some tough competition.

Overall, Seaham placed first in Durham Northumberland Wing, proving once again that they are the best squadron out of the 35 in the Wing, which wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication shown by all staff, cadets and civilian committee members on the squadron.

Flt Lt Gavin Houghton RAF VR(T) said, “It is a great achievement once again for the Squadron, and demonstrates the hard work and dedication shown throughout 2015 from all the staff, civilian committee and cadets.”
