On Saturday the 14th of July 2018, 7 Cadets and 2 staff members from the squadron participated in the 8th litter pick of the year – this time at Dawdon Dene. Previously, the squadron has visited Seaham red Star park, Rock House Dene and Seaham beach with cadets and staff members being extremely busy picking up loads of litter! Cadets have not only done this to keep their local environment clean but also as their volunteering section of their Duke of Edinborough Award.
During the 2 hours spent down Dawdon Dene, cadets managed to find, an Asda trolley, a fridge door, helium tank and several bags of litter. A couple of cadets said, “We can build a house with all this stuff”, as they found various household items. However, cadets were disheartened when they found a sofa which could not be retrieved due to not being able to get it back up the bank, but the morale was still very high throughout the event. “It was an enjoyable few hours in Dawdon, finding things from plastic tubes to fridge doors.”, Cdt Jones said after the event.
