Seaham crowned top Squadron in Durham & Northumberland

We are proud to announce that 1338 (Seaham) Squadron has been announced as the best squadron overall in Durham & Northumberland Wing.

Over the year, three inspections are carried out; an Annual Formal Inspection, an Administration Inspection and an Activities Inspection to award the Crofton, Pusey and Durham trophies respectively. The average is calculated over the three inspections to determine the overall winner in the Wing which is awarded the Lindisfarne trophy.

Seaham Squadron took joint first place with Newton Aycliffe squadron in the Annual Formal Inspection which involves displaying the squadron on parade in front of either the Wing Commander or the Deputy Wing Commander and the parade is marked against a criteria with Seaham Squadron scoring 89 points out of 100.

For the Administration Inspection and Pusey trophy, Seaham scored 97.33%, taking another first place. This inspection covers a wide area concerning the following of protocols and procedures regarding paperwork, cadets records, health and safety etc.

The Durham trophy, the activities inspection, involves the amount of activities, qualifications and competitions partaken in by cadets and the number of cadets attended for which points are awarded. Seaham took a close second place to Longbenton Squadron, achieving 65.95%.

Flt Lt Gavin Houghton RAF VR(T) said, “A huge congratulations to all cadets and staff involved for all of their hard work. It is a massive honour to be announced as the best Squadron in the Wing, especially given the recent announcement of winning the Marshall Trophy for being the most improved Squadron in the Wing over the past 3 years. Hopefully our success continues into the future!”
